Health care in a remote area of Northern Uganda is about to get a boost thanks to a groundbreaking global health initiative.
Pipeline Worldwide, a group founded to strengthen communities in that country, enlisted the help of Nebraska Medicine, UNMC and other local companies for the Omaha Simulation Container Lab Expo.
An event, held May 22 in the newly finished Catalyst building, celebrated the transformation of a shipping container into a cutting-edge remote simulation training lab designed to revolutionize continuing medical education in Uganda.
This innovative facility will support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and Uganda’s Ministry of Health objectives.

Following the expo, the simulation container will be equipped with donated medical equipment from Nebraska Medicine and shipped to Northern Uganda, where it will serve as a vital training resource for healthcare professionals at Pipeline Worldwide’s Lonyi Village Innovation Learning Center in Moyo, Uganda.
By bringing continuing medical education and training to the West Nile sub-region, the center represents a crucial step in addressing the severe shortage of educational and vocational training opportunities in Northern Uganda.
The Lonyi Village Innovation Learning Center will feature one virtual classroom for online learning, mentorship and research, as well as for use as an internet cafe. A second classroom will be used for hands-on training programs and as a debriefing space for simulation training and other health-related outreach.

The expo highlighted the collaboration between Pipeline Worldwide, the UNMC Global Center for Health Security and other community partners including:
