WIHA

Updated: Sep 3, 2025

WIHA represents the power of diaspora communities to create meaningful change in regions facing similar challenges to their countries of origin. Their partnership with Pipeline Worldwide exemplifies the power of personal connection combined with professional expertise in addressing global humanitarian challenges.

Founded by three Ethiopian-American women—Serki Abdi, Bersabeh Medmim, and Mili Tilahun—who maintain deep family ties to East Africa, WIHA brings an invaluable perspective rooted in lived experience and cultural understanding to Pipeline’s water access initiatives.

Having personal or family experience with water scarcity and its impact on health, education, and economic development, WIHA understands viscerally why reliable water access is fundamental to all other development efforts.

WIHA funded the first phase of Moyo General Hospital's water system, providing essential infrastructure that enables the hospital to maintain sanitary conditions, support increased patient capacity, and reduce hospital-acquired infections. This strategic investment in healthcare infrastructure creates ripple effects throughout the community, as improved hospital operations benefit everyone in the region.

What distinguishes WIHA's partnership is their commitment to ongoing strategic collaboration rather than one-time funding. They participate in monthly strategic meetings with Pipeline, contributing to program planning, needs assessment, and implementation strategies. This level of engagement signals their intention to become long-term strategic partners rather than simply funding sources.

WIHA's focus specifically on water projects allows Pipeline to develop specialized expertise in sustainable water solutions while building a partnership with organizations that understand the cultural and technical complexities of water system development in African contexts.
