McCarthy Building Companies stands as one of Pipeline's longest-standing and most comprehensive corporate partners, demonstrating sustained commitment that has evolved and deepened over time. Their partnership exemplifies how companies can integrate humanitarian work into their corporate culture while creating meaningful opportunities for employee engagement and professional development.
McCarthy's relationship with Pipeline began with their enthusiastic participation in the Battle of the Boxes project competition that would provide container housing for healthcare workers living in refugee settlements in Northern Uganda. Their immediate response was so positive that they asked to field two teams, signaling from the start their intention to be fully engaged rather than minimally compliant partners. This enthusiasm has characterized their relationship with Pipeline for years.
Their expertise in construction and project management has been invaluable to Pipeline's infrastructure development. McCarthy served as mentors to students from East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT) and West MEC, guiding them through the design process for specialized shipping container workshops. They then built both the shipping container and welding container workshops, ensuring professional-quality construction that would withstand the demands of international shipping and vocational training programs.
McCarthy's commitment to human development extends to their board involvement and staff participation. They fund leadership development for board member Todd Scott, investing in the next generation of organizational leadership. Currently, four McCarthy staff members are participating in Pipeline's upcoming trip to Uganda, demonstrating the company's commitment to providing their employees with meaningful volunteer experiences.
McCarthy has leveraged their industry relationships to benefit Pipeline's mission. They facilitated First Solar's donation of 400 solar panels by serving as Pipeline's advocate and making the initial connection. They are currently committed to raising funds for the solar structure at Lonyi Village for Pipeline's next power project, actively soliciting participation from their vendors and subcontractors.
McCarthy's partnership model embodies their belief in empowering employees to participate in meaningful projects while consistently donating resources and leveraging relationships, representing a partnership that is sustained, strategic, and deeply integrated into company culture.
